Quick Update – Garage 9/15/2021

Quick update on the progress of Avalon - There are a few projects with contractors that are coming in. One of them involves getting solar panels and the powerwall.  In this area, we're prone to wind and fire, and the last couple of times, the power company decided to give us a rolling blackout for a couple of days.

Granted, these rolling power outages were only from 4 PM to 9 PM, but that's when the house was the hottest.  Anyway, to be green and to save money in the long run, I decided to get Solar and the battery pack.  So I reached out to them to get them to install everything.  When Tesla came back with some feedback (they didn't actually come out yet... only email at this point), they mentioned to clear the wall space behind the electrical panel because that's where the powerwall would be.  

To make it nice by the time the battery gets installed, I decided to paint up the wall so it would at least look nice when the battery pack was installed.

Then comes the day of installation.  There's this entourage that comes and they do an onsite assessment the day of the installation.  

They came and took a look, and decided that having the battery pack in that area wasn't feasible because conduit needed to be bent with a certain angle and distance, and it also could be next to a gas line.  Also, the underlayment needed to be redone under the tiles of the roofing.

We tried to come up with some ideas so we could move forward for the battery pack, and I ultimately decided that it would be best hung up on the wall a few feet off the ground, but at the wall where one of the cars goes in.  They have to install a pole so that I don't try to run into the battery pack, even though the battery pack will be off the floor and wouldn't be in any danger of getting smashed by a big hunk of front bumper. 

Anyway, since the powerwall is now in this area, I decided to paint it to make it look nice once the powerwall is installed.  

Once this is all done, I'll post up a review of the product and the whole process with Tesla. But there is much to come.
